Now more than ever, becoming an influencer or content creator is a great option for young people looking to learn more about social media, marketing, and themselves! Unfortunately, it’s no longer as easy as having a good camera and a couple hundred followers. So, what’s the key to growing your following and brand as an au pair?
Getting started
Find your niche
If you’re looking to become an influencer, it’s important to find a passion or hobby that makes you stand out. This will keep your followers curious and give you a topic for your content. Luckily, as a Cultural Care au pair, you already have a head start! You’re joining a unique cultural exchange program that many young people may not know exists, and you have the amazing opportunity to tell them about it! Plus, you can use your year to create content around all sorts of topics, like food/culture, childcare, personal growth, or travel. Pick whatever gets you most excited!
Pick your platform
There are a couple of social media platforms to choose from as an au pair influencer. If you love photography and the idea of creating a digital scrapbook, you might want to start curating your Instagram feed. If you love staying on top of social media trends, being in front of the camera, or want to improve your video editing skills, TikTok is a great option! A blog, podcast, or YouTube channel may be a good fit if you’re interested in long-form, more in-depth content.
Craft your story
As an au pair influencer, your followers may ask you specific questions about the au pair experience, so it’ll be important to become an #aupairlife expert! One way to tell your followers about your year in the US is to create a digital timeline of your experience. Throughout the year, show your followers how you celebrate different American holidays, share your own culture, and spend time with your host kids. During your days off and travel month, document your adventures!
Collaborate with us & other au pairs
At Cultural Care Au Pair, we provide many different resources for our au pair influencers! Tag us in your photos and use the hashtags #culturalcare, #culturalcareaupair and #aupairlife to boost your engagement and attract followers. With your permission, we may even choose to use your photo/video content in our marketing materials, which means more exposure for you! You may want to collaborate with other Cultural Care au pairs and your home country's Cultural Care Instagram account as well to expand your audience, or even make a shared account and post alongside your au pair friends!
Follow these best practices
• Make sure you have explicit permission to post content with your host kids • Post consistently (try for 3x/week) • Take advantage of social trends! • Find the best day/time to post • Use clever captions & great hashtags • Try new things, but keep the same look/theme
